Managing in a Political World

In many parts of the country hundreds of new relationships will need to be forged between senior council officers and leading councillors. Solace, with their extensive experience of working with leading councillors, is offering a one day programme for chief executives, directors and heads of service, which is ideally timed to assist senior officers in establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with lead politicians.

The Skills Day draws lessons and learning points from academic research on real relationships, both positive and negative, between chief executives and leaders; lessons equally applicable to the interactions of cabinet portfolio members and senior officers. Using scenarios and role-plays based on real life critical incidents, this day will analyse the challenges faced in forming positive relationships and the different drivers of senior politicians’ and managers’ behaviours and approaches. Participants will take away practical advice on coping and relationship building strategies and on such issues as how to use “the honeymoon period” to maximum effect.

Solace can deliver this one day programme in house or on a sub-regional basis.
